Smoke Free Swindon

A Healthier England

On 1 July 2007, England introduced a new law to make virtually all enclosed public places and workplaces in England smokefree. Smokefree England has ensured a healthier environment, so everyone can socialise, relax, travel, shop and work free from secondhand smoke.

The legislation has been welcomed and compliance has been extremely high with only 45 complaints in total for Swindon by April 2008.

Members of the public who wish to report a breach of the new law should call 0800 587 1667.

A New Opportunity

Smokefree legislation is not the end of the line. Smoking still causes 1 in 5 of all deaths and is the single biggest preventable killer. The Swindon Tobacco Control Partnership has the opportunity to now widen the Tobacco Control Agenda further improving the health of people in Swindon. People, who choose not to smoke and those who cannot choose, perhaps because they are too young to object, should be protected from second hand tobacco smoke. The partnership has the task of ensuring that all the organisations in Swindon who can support this work do so, and are supported themselves.

Visit the Partnership page for more information.

The Future Really is Smokefree

We hope that you will find the site easy to use and useful too.

Do visit regularly as we shall be updating pages, and adding information, especially in light of the smokefree legislation.
