It's been 12 months since we launched the Swindon Public Services Apprenticeship Scheme, working in partnership with both public and private sector organisations.
We have been very successful in recruiting some great apprentices, they are employed in diverse roles within our organisations and are enjoying their work experiences to date (please see Case Studies).
Swindon Borough Council and our strategic partners; Great Western Hospital Foundation Trust, Primary Care Trust and Capita PLC have offered apprenticeships in the following areas:
- Business Administration
- Child Care and Early Years
- IT
- Amenity Horticulture
- Plumbing
- Electrical Installation
- Health and Social Care
- Youth Work
We are continuing to explore new areas for apprenticeship roles all the time.
Our involvement in the apprenticeship scheme forms part of our commitment to make Swindon Borough Council A Great Place to Work.

We're Backing Young Britain
Swindon Borough Council is taking an active part in Backing Young Britain - a new Government campaign calling on organisations to create more opportunities for young people.
Times are tough for young people who are leaving school or full-time education this summer. Yet they are the future of our workforce and it's vital that they get the help they need now, to find a job, get training, or build their work skills and experience.
We can and should all play our part.
For more information on the campaign, please see the Backing Young Britain website (www.hmg.gov.uk/backingyoungbritain).
