Apprenticeships

Apprenticeships. Good for our Business.

It's been 12 months since we launched the Swindon Public Services Apprenticeship Scheme, working in partnership with both public and private sector organisations.

We have been very successful in recruiting some great apprentices, they are employed in diverse roles within our organisations and are enjoying their work experiences to date (please see Case Studies).

Swindon Borough Council and our strategic partners; Great Western Hospital Foundation Trust, Primary Care Trust and Capita PLC have offered apprenticeships in the following areas:

  • Business Administration
  • Child Care and Early Years
  • IT
  • Amenity Horticulture
  • Plumbing
  • Electrical Installation
  • Health and Social Care
  • Youth Work

We are continuing to explore new areas for apprenticeship roles all the time.

Our involvement in the apprenticeship scheme forms part of our commitment to make Swindon Borough Council A Great Place to Work.

Training Providers

We are very flexible in our approach to training and use a variety of Training Providers, please see list below:

  • Key Training
  • JHP Training
  • Swindon College
  • New College
  • Cirencester College
  • Bristol College
  • Hartpury College
  • Wiltshire College

And There's More...

You can take on an apprentice for just £95 per week, on an initial 12 month Fixed Term Training Contract. Training costs are mainly funded by the Learning and Skills Council.

We're Backing Young Britain

Backing Young Britain logoSwindon Borough Council is taking an active part in Backing Young Britain - a new Government campaign calling on organisations to create more opportunities for young people.

Times are tough for young people who are leaving school or full-time education this summer. Yet they are the future of our workforce and it's vital that they get the help they need now, to find a job, get training, or build their work skills and experience.

We can and should all play our part.

For more information on the campaign, please see the Backing Young Britain website (www.hmg.gov.uk/backingyoungbritain).
