News and Views01 October 2007 Tobacco Age of Sale Rises to 18 From Monday 1st October the tobacco age of sale will increase from 16 to 18 in the latest government step to cut smoking rates in the UK, and prevent young people buying tobacco.
07 September 2007 New Law Affecting Tobacco sale to Teenagers A new law affecting the sale of tobacco to teenagers is being supported by Swindon Borough Council Trading Standards. 17 July 2007 Businesses Give Positive Response to Smokefree Laws Swindon Borough Council reports on the response to the new legislation after carrying out hundreds of advisory visits to business premises. 17 July 2007 To celebrate the creativity of young people and to welcome the protection provided by the smokefree legislation, young people used redundant ashtrays to create an art message. 12 March 2007 Hundreds of smokers in Swindon are expected to stub out their final cigarette on No Smoking day– Wednesday 14 March. 09 February 2007 From 1st July 2007, virtually all enclosed public places and workplaces in England will be healthier places to visit or work. 22 December 2006 A 12 metre-long tanker wrapped up to look like a cigarette was parked in Swindon town centre to raise awareness of the poisons found in cigarette smoke. 14 December 2006 Poisons Found in Cigarette Smoke The British public is unaware of the multitude of poisonous chemicals found in cigarette smoke – according to a survey carried out for Cancer Research UK. 14 December 2006 Summer Date for Launch of Smokefree Workplaces The smoking ban in all enclosed public places and workplaces in England will begin on 1 July 2007, Health Secretary Patricia Hewitt has announced. |
