Up in Smoke! - No Smoking Day 11 March 2009

Take the first step

Millions are expected to take the first step and stop smoking next week on Wednesday 11 March 2009. In its 26th year, No Smoking Day is encouraging smokers to quit their habit and save a packet!

No Smoking Day 2009 posterThousands of No Smoking Day events are taking place all over the UK. There will be customised double-decker buses, interactive stalls, dance displays and a ‘Hollywood’ premiere style event! And many sports activities including local football clubs getting involved.

Stop smoking services, fire and rescue services, supermarkets, and many more are out and about to help and support smokers who are ready to take the first step!

Swindon Events

Organisers in Swindon have got some fantastic events planned for the day. The Swindon Tobacco Control Partnership invites all smokers who are ready to take the first step to attend their event in Wharf Green, SwindonTown Centre on Monday 9 March at 12 noon to watch the Fire Service hose out Mr Ciggie.

Advice and support will be on hand to offer anyone who is ready to take the challenge to stop smoking. The Stop Smoking Service will also have a stand outside of Debenhams under The Parade Canopy in Swindon on Wednesday 11 March.

Free Help and Support

Smokers in Swindon already have access to world class help and support from the Swindon NHS Stop Smoking Service. The free help provided by this service can improve the chance of stopping successfully by up to four times.

Research has shown that over two thirds of smokers would like to stop. No Smoking Day provides an excellent opportunity for them to do that. By using the support available on No Smoking Day and throughout the year smokers can significantly increase their chance of success.

Dan Tickle, Chief Executive of No Smoking Day, the charity behind the annual health awareness campaign, says, “Good luck to all smokers in Swindon who are taking the first step to improving their health in the best possible way on 11 March. Stopping smoking is the ultimate lifestyle overhaul. You’ll feel fitter and healthier and have more energy and more money! Using the help provided by Swindon NHS Stop Smoking Service can make it four times more likely that you will succeed. Good luck!”
