Salt Boxes

Description of Service

Salt bins are placed strategically at well over 200 locations in and around the Borough of Swindon. These are for use by local residents who can use the salt to help make their local roads and pavements safer during freezing weather conditions.

We cannot place them everywhere but do try to locate them in hilly places and at sharp bends in the road.

If a salt bin near you becomes empty or damaged, or if you feel there would be benefit to having a bin in a new location, please let us know.

Service Levels

We replenish salt stocks periodically and will normally respond to requests for replenishment within 10 working days, sooner if the absence of the salt is likely to cause an immediate danger.

The time involved in repairing, placing or installing salt boxes will vary depending on the nature and extent of damage and the lead times for components from suppliers.
